   Utilities

   The University of Delaware spent $26,195,954 in F/Y 2007-2008 on utilities. 
 
   In Newark the main buildings are heated from gas burning boilers which generate
   steam. The boilers in the central utility plant can also burn fuel oil in cold
   weather. The majority of the natural gas is purchased as a commodity through
   NYMEX.
 
   In Newark electricity and water are purchased from the City of Newark.
   In Lewes Buildings are heated mainly by electricity which is
   bought from the City of Lewes which also supplies water.

   In Wilmington buildings are heated by natural gas and electric by Delmarva.
