GAMEDAY RULES
We have it in the bag.
There are three simple steps to successfully participate in Game Recycling:
- Upon entry, tailgaters receive a blue/clear bag for recyclables and a black bag for trash.
- Place your recyclables in the blue bag and your trash in the black bag
- Before you head to the game, take your recycling and trash to a recycling and waste station located at the end of each parking row.
Single Stream Recycling Initiatives
Football Game Day Recycling: Get in the Game and Recycle!
The University of Delaware completed its 4th year of football Game Day Recycling. The 2011 Single Stream Game Day Recycling Program diverted 12.7 tons of recyclables from the landfill.
For the 2012 football season, the University will provide recycling containers in parking lots, tailgating areas, and around the stadium to handle the disposal of all recyclable items. Game Day recycling is an opportunity for all members of the UD community to demonstrate their efforts on behalf of the "green" movement, in addition to, of course, to rooting for our favorite Blue Hens!
RecycleMania
RecycleMania is a friendly competition among college and university recycling programs to encourage waste reduction throughout campus communities. Schools report recycling and trash data over a 10-week period, culminating in a "rank" by performance of those universities that collected the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables.
In 2011, UD was 31st out of the 383 participating colleges and universities in the Gorilla Prize category, for larger schools that recycle the highest gross tonnage of combined paper, cardboard, bottles and cans, with a competition total of 419,845 pounds. UD recycled 17 pounds per capita with a ranking of 84th. The University of Delaware is currently getting pumped for RecycleMania 2012 and will count on the UD community to reach new heights in the RecycleMania competition!
