Responsible for the cleanliness, protection and preservation of the facilities that comprise the campus of the University of Delaware.
Some of the regular services performed by Custodial and Pest Control Services are:
- Residence halls/residential cleaning
- Conference facilities cleaning
- Residence hall damage billing
- Support and services for summer conference housing
- Classrooms, labs, public areas and office cleaning
- Unlocking exterior doors
- Interior relamping
- Recycling: paper, cardboard and fluorescent lamps
- Pest exterminating and control
- Entrance mats: replacement and installation
- Special event support
- Furniture and equipment setup for programs
- Emergency cleanups as a result of floods, leaks, injuries, illness, construction, etc.
- Window washing / pressure washing
- Recommendation for carpet replacements
- Carpet cleaning
- Floor restoration
- Replacement for rest room dispensers
- Provides trash receptacles for classroom, public areas and residence hall rooms
- Snow and ice removal from ramps, steps, landings in the immediate vicinity of academic buildings
- Reporting maintenance deficiencies
- Clean campus maps
- Fire extinguisher and exit sign inspections

Residential and Conference Facilities
Monday through Friday, Custodial Technicians clean all public areas, which includes bathrooms, lounges, stairwells, hallways, kitchens, laundry rooms and entrances. These areas are cleaned according to a schedule, which is customized for each area. These Custodial Technicians work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30p.m. Residence Life Staff will be notified when Custodial Staff are working on a modified schedule to provide coverage (i.e., during absences or emergencies). Custodial Managers inspect each area for compliance with Residential and Conference Custodial Services standards. Results are reviewed with the Custodial Technician and deadlines are given for correction of deficiencies.
Twelve Weekend Custodial Technicians work Wednesday through Sunday, 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m. On weekends, they provide the following services for residence halls: replenish toilet paper; remove trash from the bathrooms, lounges and all public areas; provide emergency clean-ups for health and safety (i.e., discharged fire extinguishers, broken glass, floods, spills, body fluids). Wednesday through Friday, Weekend Custodial Technicians are responsible for carpet cleaning in all residence halls on campus, also maintaining Ray Street Complex, West Offices, Lovett, Dickinson and Rodney Guest Apartments, DKC-Computer Room, Residential and Conference Facilities Operation Center and Conover Graduate Housing.
Residents should report all maintenance and cleaning emergencies to the Facilities Customer Service Center at (302) 831-1141 (24 hours, 7 days). The Service Center will contact the appropriate Custodial Manager to address your concerns or notify a mechanic for maintenance concerns.
